The BUSY School is making waves in youth education, focusing on academic success and creating meaningful and sustainable career pathways for its students.
Joining this mission is Grace Tobin, one of the on-campus Employment Pathway Officers, whose dedication and passion is the driving force behind the school’s transformative approach.
Grace Tobin, an advocate for youth empowerment, emphasises the importance of guiding and empowering young people for success in careers they are passionate about.
“My ethos is setting young people up with meaningful and sustainable employment,” Grace says, committed to ensuring that students are not merely placed in jobs, but in roles that align with their interests and aspirations.
“I’m not putting them in jobs they don’t want to do, I’m having those discussions with students and also employers, ensuring the opportunities are engaging,” she adds, stressing the importance of creating realistic expectations for both students and employers.
A key aspect of Grace’s work is her involvement in the Redlands Regional Jobs Committee, where she volunteers her time to advocate for youth employment opportunities.
She recognises the challenges faced by young people, particularly in a post-COVID and social media-driven landscape and strives to bridge the gap between businesses and the youth workforce.
One of Grace’s primary goals is to bring attention to the abundance of talent within the Redlands community.
Despite entry-level jobs often going to individuals from outside the region, Grace is determined to showcase the capabilities of local youth and provide them with opportunities to thrive within their own community.
Grace’s journey is deeply personal, as she reflects on her own experiences as a defiant young person.
“Hurt people hurt people, and I want to turn that around,” she shares, highlighting her unique understanding and compassion for the students.
This perspective informs her approach to supporting and empowering young people, as she endeavors to break cycles of adversity and building resilience.
The BUSY School revolves around holistic support for students, with a focus on building authentic connections and confidence.
“Students are not seen as just a number, which can happen in other institutions,” Grace stated, highlighting the school’s commitment to nurturing individual growth and potential with free education and services.
Grace’s efforts extend beyond the school campus, as she engages with businesses and community stakeholders to create work experience opportunities for students.
Through networking events and mentorship programs, she endeavors to open doors for students and facilitate meaningful connections within various industries.
One of Grace’s most rewarding experiences is witnessing the transformation of students who have overcome personal barriers to pursue their passions.
By providing tailored support and encouragement, Grace empowers students to realise their full potential and achieve success.
As The BUSY School continues to champion positive career pathways for youth, along with all The BUSY School Employment Pathways Officers and staff at The BUSY School, Grace Tobin is driving change and inspiring future generations.
With a shared vision and unwavering dedication, the school is poised to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people in Cleveland and beyond.
