Talking to us in the Rec Room of The BUSY School’s Ipswich Campus, young Tane’s story is one of remarkable resilience. His journey, marked by teenage struggles, finds hope and purpose within the supportive community of The BUSY School, leading him to find his purpose and start a career pathway in entrepreneurship for trade.
A passionate sports enthusiast with a love for rugby league and boxing, Tane exudes confidence, yet beneath it lies a tale of inner conflict.
“I’ve faced tough times,” Tane shares. “I struggled with myself and life. But since coming to The BUSY School, everything changed, and I started enjoying life again.”
Before coming to The BUSY School, Tane’s journey was difficult. After enduring a toxic home environment, he moved in with his grandparents, embracing a path toward independence that tested his strength.
Reflecting on his past, he recalls, “Before The BUSY School, I struggled academically and emotionally. I didn’t feel comfortable anywhere.”
Starting at The BUSY School Tane found more than just an educational institution; it became a sanctuary. Tane found genuine friendships and a supportive network that embraced him for who he is. “I connected with my teachers; they actually understand me,” he says, gratitude evident in his voice.
Embracing alternative learning, Tane flourished in an environment tailored to his needs. “Alternative learning is still learning, but it’s easier to handle,” he explains. “The teachers and staff are incredibly supportive.”
Central to Tane’s transformation were dedicated educators. “My English teacher Kate is amazing,” he beams. “We joke and laugh together.”
The BUSY School community has positively influenced Tane—teachers inspired him, and friends supported his quest for purpose. “I never knew what I wanted to do,” he admits, “but now I’m focused on entrepreneurship in the trade industry.”
Through hands-on experiences in Certificate programs, Tane is now pursuing two distinct pathways: earning a Certificate II in Construction with Hutchinson Builders and a Certificate III in Business with Rackley’s Swimming Team.
These programs not only provide him with valuable skills but also an income, helping him navigate his newfound independence.
As Tane reflects on his journey, his message resonates: “Look into a school like The BUSY School; it really helps!”
Tane’s journey serves as a testament to the profound impact of alternative learning, along with resilience and the belief in one’s ability to rise above adversity.
