Graduating students from The BUSY School will take many different pathways, some heading straight into the workforce, some undertaking apprenticeships and others moving onto higher education through university or vocational colleges. With an individualised approach, BUSY School students, while completing their QCE, are also provided guidance and opportunity to explore career paths that they are interested in.
Recently being informed that they’ve been accepted into the degrees of their choice, both Georgia and Lily are two students who will be heading to university upon graduation. Georgia will be studying a business degree and Lily is looking forward to commencing a degree in English Literature.
Excited by the prospect of going to University, both Georgia and Lily reflected on their unique journeys that led them to The BUSY School.
Georgia said, “I struggled a lot with mainstream schooling, it didn’t work for me and I didn’t show up. I think the pressure of eight different classes and having to do them all on time really got to me. Also, the kids weren’t as nice, I felt really invisible and didn’t like how I felt, it wasn’t an environment I would put myself in. So, I looked for alternative pathways and found The BUSY School.”
Lily had a similar experience, stating, “I would do anything I could to get out of school. It just wasn’t somewhere I wanted to be. We were all kind of treated below the teachers. At The BUSY School, it’s not like, ‘I’m the teacher and you’re the student’. Everyone is treated the same here, which I like. And there’s not as much pressure.”
Since being at The BUSY School, both girls have since excelled in their learning!
Georgia said of her experience, “I love the environment here. The teachers and the students are all very respectful, no one stands on their high horse here. It’s a very understanding environment, everyone’s pretty calm and collected. Also, the curriculum is amazing and if we have any issues outside of school that might mean we are late on an assignment, the teachers will accommodate us to an extent.”
Georgia was someone who never really knew what she wanted to do. Recognising she has great analytical thinking skills and enjoying subjects like economics, accounting and maths, Georgia wants to work in a role she will enjoy and that plays to her strengths.
Heading to university to study business, Georgia says, “I’m really looking forward to the environment! I’m excited to be in a place where all my peers have similar interests to me. Also, the learning side and to be able to have productive, intelligent conversations, that’s what I’m looking forward to.
“Even if I want to go on and do something else, I’m glad I am doing something that I am interested in but that will also serve a practical purpose. My goal is to be financially comfortable in life, to have financial stability and to have comfort in life and in work.”
Lily was inspired to study literature as she has always enjoyed reading and writing and feels it will be a great way to expand her knowledge of communications. She is looking forward to starting a degree in English Literature and said, “I’m looking forward to the learning side of things too and hearing other people’s perspectives on things. My goal is to be happy and passionate about what I am doing.”
Both girls will commence their degrees in 2025.
