On 8 March 2025, The BUSY School proudly joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) under the powerful theme: For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment. This year’s theme calls for urgent action to unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all while fostering a feminist future where no one is left behind.
At The BUSY School, these principles are deeply embedded within our commitment to education, especially at our Southport Girls+ Campus. This unique campus provides a safe, tailored learning environment for young women who may not have otherwise completed their education in mainstream schooling. By offering flexibility, support and empowerment through education, we help students unlock their full potential and chart a course toward personal and professional success.
This year marks a pivotal moment as we recognise the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action—the most progressive and widely endorsed blueprint for advancing the rights of women and girls worldwide. This landmark framework has driven significant changes in legal protections, access to services, youth engagement, and shifting outdated social norms. Yet, as we reflect on the progress made, we must continue to invest in the next generation of young women, ensuring their voices are heard and their aspirations are realised.
The BUSY School’s leadership is filled with strong, dedicated women who champion these values daily. Our Principal of Southport Girls+ Campus shared her thoughts on the resilience of the young women she leads, stating “Every day, I witness the unwavering strength of our students. They are emplifying what it means to succeed, not just in academics but in life. Their determination to rise above challenges is truly inspiring, and our mission is to ensure they have every opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
We are also proud to share the voices of two influential women on The BUSY School Queensland Board. Efthimia Voulcaris stated, “Empowering young women through education is one of the most powerful ways to drive meaningful change. At The BUSY School, we believe in breaking barriers and building pathways for success.”
Director, Cassandra Champion added, “Equality in education is not just about access—it’s about creating environments where young women feel valued, supported, and inspired to lead. We are committed to making this a reality.”
This year, 2025 also marks a historic milestone as The BUSY School expands beyond Australian borders with the opening of our Auckland Campus. Led by Foundation Principal Moana Va’aeula, this campus extends our mission of providing alternative education pathways to even more students. Moana reflects on the importance of this approach in New Zealand, stating, “Students can struggle to engage in a traditional school setting. The BUSY School provides a much-needed alternative, offering tailored support and flexibility that allows students to reconnect with learning and gain the confidence to succeed.”
This International Women’s Day, we encourage you to take action in your communities. Engage with media, corporate leaders, government officials and civil society to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. Share your support on digital platforms using #ForAllWomenAndGirls to amplify the message and inspire others to join the cause. At The BUSY School, we are committed to ensuring that every young woman in our schools has the opportunity to thrive. Together, let’s celebrate their achievements, advocate for their futures and work toward a world where every girl has the power to lead.
