Bringing Colour and Connection to The BUSY School

Bringing Colour and Connection to The BUSY School

A series of murals in a building display striking, colourful graphics alongside inspiring phrases such as BE TRUE. BE YOU. BE BOLD., EDUCATE. EMPOWER. EMPLOY., and WHERE OPPORTUNITIES BEGIN, with support by The BUSY School.

At The BUSY School, we believe that the right environment can transform lives. Thanks to the incredible talent of renowned street artist Sarah Sculley, our Cleveland and Cairns campuses have been brought to life with vibrant, energetic murals — and the impact has been powerful and immediate.

Before Sarah’s work, the blank, monotone walls did little to inspire. In many ways, they reflected the very challenges our students face: disengagement, emotional struggle, and a deep uncertainty about the future. Today, those same walls radiate colour, energy, and a sense of belonging. They tell a new story — one of possibility, pride, and hope.

“I wanted to create a space that sparks inspiration,” Sarah said. “A place where students feel like they truly belong — where they’re encouraged to participate, to thrive, and to believe in their potential.”

“When I first heard about The BUSY School’s vision, I was instantly on board,” she added. “I paint with bright colours because they evoke energy and emotion. A space should do the same — it should move you, uplift you. That’s what I set out to achieve.”

These murals are far more than decoration — they’re a powerful form of connection. Research shows that vibrant, visually engaging spaces help increase participation and emotional engagement. At The BUSY School, we’ve seen firsthand how these artistic transformations lift mental wellbeing, spark pride in the school community, and create a deeper sense of belonging.

Naomi Vucas, Principal at our Cairns campus, said, “The new look has really brightened up our campus. The colours, the energy, the quotes — it adds a positive vibe.”

Feedback from students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive. Many describe the transformed spaces as places where they want to be — in their words, “a place where we belong.”

We are incredibly proud to partner with local talent Sarah Sculley and to continue investing in school spaces that nurture the wellbeing, engagement, and future success of our young people.

If you’d like to see more of our campuses transformed — and help bring more of Sarah’s masterpieces to life — we invite you to support our mission. Together, we can continue building spaces where students feel safe, seen, and inspired to reach their full potential.
