Katelyn Graduates from The BUSY School and Launches Her Auto Trade Career
This year’s National Skills Week (25 August – 31st August 2025), puts the spotlight on ‘Explore all Options’, which is exactly what The BUSY School students are encouraged to do while completing their high school education.
This was the case for Katelyn who, not enjoying her past school environment, was falling behind in her education. It wasn’t until she came to The BUSY School’s Salisbury campus that she started to thrive.
Here she found a safe environment, more teacher assistance and a personalised learning plan. With renewed confidence, Katelyn successfully graduated in 2024 with her Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). She was also the recipient of the Apprenticeship/Traineeship Award at the end of year graduation ceremony!
At The BUSY School, students like Katelyn are encouraged to explore different career paths and are provided opportunities through information sessions, work experience or school-based apprenticeships. It was through these career exploration opportunities that Katelyn gained an interest in becoming an auto mechanic.
Always enjoying hands-on, practical work, along with having a passion for cars, Katelyn was excited to gain an apprenticeship in 2024 with a Southeast Queensland company, as a first-year light vehicle mechanic.
The BUSY Group is further supporting Katelyn through the BUSY Sisters program, a mentoring program that supports women entering non-traditional trade careers. The BUSY Sisters program partners with Motor Trades Association Queensland (MTAQ), which also gives Katelyn access to skillset courses and additional female mentors experienced in the auto trades.
Katelyn has faced and overcome many challenges in her life, but her dedication to her trade and personal growth is nothing short of inspiring. A recent milestone? She bought her very first toolbox and she couldn’t be more stoked about it!
The BUSY School is proud to support young people to complete their education and find meaningful career pathways, supporting apprentices like Katelyn through the BUSY Sisters program to complete their apprenticeship and find successful career paths. Katelyn’s story is a reminder that with the right support, along with personal determination, anything is possible.
